The Roots

Imported from Portland, Jamaica, the birthplace of Boston Jerk, Porty Vibez specializes in creating dishes with fresh, quality ingredients. Our approach to Jamaican food is "local and sustainably sourced ingredients, cooked fresh, with Jamaican herbs and spices." I am combining a healthy and innovative take on traditional Jamaican dishes with Jamaica's love for the community into a restaurant concept-driven to bring people closer together around their love of food.

Porty Vibez’s name is derived from my hometown of Portland, Jamaica, where I first developed my love for the flavors of Jamaican cuisine. From the age of 12, I have been in the kitchen with my parents, whipping up authentic dishes for family dinners and get-togethers, just to keep the tradition alive. Those family recipes are the same ones I use to this day.

MEET THE CHEF
I was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica where I lived until I was three years old. March 1991, we moved to New York since my grandpa filed for us. NY was too expensive at the time so my mom decided in December 1991, Michigan would be a better place to raise kids. Moving to the states didn’t stop my family from whipping up authentic Jamaican dishes and visiting Jamaica every year. Where I could play with my cousins, enjoy a cool breeze on the veranda, and countless hours on the beach eating jerk chicken and festival. Cooking has always been an immense part of my life. I wanted to know how to make EVERYTHING! As a result, over the years I watched and learned, taking it all in.
I still remember being happy to enjoy the food from street vendors, restaurants, and family gatherings. I enjoyed how our food brought the family together, big BBQs, music, and laughter. That is the same joy and feeling I want to evoke in every dish I bring to you.
